4-H is an informal educational program involving hundreds of youth and adult volunteers in Tioga County. Any youth age 5 to 19 may participate. The value and strength of the 4-H program has been a vital part of youth development in Tioga County since 1946.
Mission
The 4-H mission is to help young people become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society and to help young people acquire life skills through club and county programs.

4-H Clubs Make a Difference
Cornell researchers found that 4-H clubs make a positive difference for youth in many ways. Youth improve communication, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, and they learn to care for others, explore career choices and make lasting friendships.

Animal Science Program
The animal science clubs includes: Beef, Dairy, Goat, Hog, Llama-Alpaca, Horse, Sheep, Rabbit, and Poultry.

Horticulture Program
The 4-H Horticulture Program teaches good gardening practices by experimenting with different projects. The program includes Hydroponics, Giant Pumpkin and the Three Sisters Iroquois Garden. Members who complete all three projects earn Junior Master Gardener certification.

Shooting Sports Program
The Shooting Sports Program teaches girls and boys ages 12 to 19 the safe handling, shooting, cleaning and storage of firearms and about the natural environment.
Members have the opportunity to be a part of a competitive team, earn awards, compete at state shooting events and meet other youth with the same interest.

Dog Training Program
The Dog Program teaches youth about their favorite companions and how to properly train them. Youth attend workshops, complete a workbook and participate in obedience, agility and/or grooming and handling classes.

The Teen Program teaches leadership, organization and communication skills. Teens participate in various events and public relations activities.

Members learn public relations techniques by actively marketing the 4-H program through the media and public presentations.

Tractor Safety Program
The Farm Safety and Tractor Certification course teaches and certifies youth 14 and older on the safe operation of farm machinery.
Students learn about safe tractor and equipment operation, farm equipment maintenance and careers in agriculture and equipment dealerships.

Knowledge Contests
Members can particate in Hippology, Horse Bowl, Dairy Bowl, Horse Judging and Dairy judging contests.

Hidden Valley 4H Camp
Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is a co-educational residential camp for youth ages 8-18.
It is located in beautiful Watkins Glen State Park.
