Food$marts is a program of Eat Smart New York, New York State’s food stamp nutrition education program.
It helps limited-resource individuals and families become more independent and self-sufficient.
Helping People Eat Smart
Objectives
· To insure that people have enough to eat without resorting to emergency food assistance.
· To motivate people to adopt healthy eating and lifestyle behaviors.
· To improve safe food handling, preparation and storage.
· To enhance food resource management related to food shopping and preparation.
· To foster changes that make nutritious, safe and affordable foods available to the food stamp population in Tioga County.
Helping people eat better for less
Methods
Our objectives are achieved through individual or group instruction by Nutrition Program Educators (NPEs) trained through Cornell University.
Whether working one-on-one or with groups, NPEs tailor nutrition lessons to the needs and interests of participants.

NUTMEG
NUTMEG is a joint project of the Nutrition and Wellness and the Family Development programs where children ages 3 to 8 learn about nutrition and physical activity.

The Phoenix is a joint project of the Nutrition and Wellness and the 4H Youth Development programs providing Waverly youth with a safe and nurturing place to go after school.
MyPyramid
The New Food Guide Pyramid
The USDA has recently released the MyPyramid food guidance system to replace the Food Guide Pyramid. Along with the new symbol, the system provides many options to help Americans make healthy food choices and to be active every day.
