The Program

NUTMEG is a project of the Community Nutrition & Wellness and Family Development programs that was started in the fall of 2004 at the Owego and Waverly Family Resource Centers to give kids the start to nutrition and physical activity habits that can lead to a long, healthy Life.
NUTMEG is free for children ages three to eight
Physical Activity

The physical activity portion of the program gets the kids involved in non-competitive games that keep them moving with the objective of encouraging an enthusiasm for physical activity that leads to life-long fitness.
Staying Fit

The nutrition portion of the program provides fun, interactive activities that teach children about the different food groups with the objective of instilling a life-long practice of healthy eating.

Certified Instructors

Volunteers from CCE Tioga and the community became certified NUTMEG instructors through training from John Hichwa of the National Association for Sport & Physical Education and Jennifer Jones, a registered dietitian and the Nutrition and wellness educator with CCE Tioga.

A $10,000 grant from General Mills Champions Youth Nutrition and Fitness Grants made NUTMEG posible.
